The question
Many SMEs lack the internal capability to identify high-value AI use cases, integrate AI into existing workflows and manage the governance and security risks, so adoption often stays experimental rather than strategic. At the same time, graduates need stronger applied capability to turn AI tools into operational productivity gains.
What we are doing
The Studio is a credit-bearing professional practice programme, run from a Glasgow hub and focused on Scottish deep tech SMEs. Teams of Honours-level students from business, computing science, engineering, economics and data science work with SMEs through a structured 10-week AI Innovation Sprint: an AI capability diagnostic, a targeted workflow intervention, and a governance, risk and productivity impact assessment, supported by academic oversight and specialist AI mentoring. In total, 120 students will work with 40 organisations.
Intended impact
Lower barriers to AI adoption for SMEs, and graduates ready to turn AI into productivity gains.
