Dr Gemma Milne has been awarded ESRC Connect funding for Owning the Future? Histories and Futures of Intellectual Property in Deep Tech, which she will lead as Principal Investigator.
Decisions about intellectual property in deep tech – what gets patented, licensed, pooled or kept secret – rarely draw on the long history of how other IP arrangements have worked and whom they served. The project brings historians, legal scholars, deep tech practitioners and policymakers together at a residential gathering in Glasgow to rethink how intellectual property could serve both innovation and the public interest.
Gemma leads the project with co-leads at Lund University and the University of Warwick, and partners including The Engine and Renaissance Philanthropy UK.
